Early Life and EducationLauren Helen Graham was born on March 16, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her father, Lawrence Graham, was a confectionary association executive, and her mother, Donna Grant, was a singer and model. After her parents divorced when she was five, Graham traveled extensively with her father before settling down in Virginia for elementary school. She later attended Langley High School and earned a degree in English from Barnard College, part of Columbia University. In 1992, she graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Master of Fine Arts in Acting.
From Waitress to World Cup Mascot
After graduating, Graham moved to New York City and worked as a waitress in a cocktail bar. She landed a break when she was cast as the mascot dog for the 1994 FIFA World Cup. In 1995, she relocated to Hollywood and appeared in several short-lived sitcoms.

From 1996 to 1997, Graham began appearing in episodic roles in popular shows such as "3rd Rock from the Sun," "Caroline in the City," and "Law & Order."
